Located  in the northwest corner of Wyoming, Yellowstone is the first national park in the world, making it the oldest and most popular in the United States.Yellowstone is a land of pine-clad mountains and broad grassy valleys. The countryside is laced with lakes and streams of exquisite beauty.

Major park features:

  • Superb mountain scenery
  • World's principle wildlife preserve
  • A photographers paradise
  • Old Faithful Geyser -- iconic and most famous in the world
  • Firehole River Cascades
  • Firehole Falls
  • Thermal basins: Lower Geyser Basin, Midway, Biscuit and Black Sand Basins, Upper Basin
  • Fountain Paint Pot... pools of colorful, hot mud that bubble and sputter
  • Excelsior Geyser
  • Grand Prismatic Spring, stunning array of colors 370 ft diameter, the largest in Yellowstone
  • Rainbow Pool
  • Sunset Lakes
  • Old Faithful Inn -- one of the finest lodges in America with it's immense lobby and huge stone fireplace

According to Nat Geo, Yellowstone is a geological smoking gun of a violent and cataclysmic event when the volcano exploded some 640,000 years ago. An area many square miles suddenly exploded and devastated, leaving only the center a smoldering caldera, a collapsed crater 45 by 30 miles which is now the center of the park.  Today boiling hot springs, fumaroles, mud spots and geysers are indications of that event and what could possibly happen in the future.

Grant Village Campground

Located on the southwest shore of Yellowstone Lake, the Grant Village Campground is situated at an elevation of approximately 7,800 feet in a lodgepole pine forest, just a few miles from the enchanting West Thumb Geyser Basin. This geyser basin is located on the shore of the lake, with an easily navigated boardwalk and trail system providing terrific views of the various hot springs and thermal features. The campground offers a relaxing setting with easy access to many services and amenities. Grant Village Campground is just over 40 miles from Colter Bay.
